Oscar Night, Free Music and More

What's there to do in and around Napa this weekend? So much, we can only scratch the surface with our top tips—including, of course, the annual Oscar Night gala at Mondavi.

Thursday

Did somebody say "free music?" Yes, tonight's the Wine Train Sing Along in the comfortable depot of the Napa Valley Wine Train1275 McKinstry St. With new musicians monthly, all ages welcome and no drink minimum. Buy a bottle from the wine shop to enjoy in the station with no corkage fee. Beer and other beverages available for purchase too. No reservations are needed, just drop in when you're ready for some fun.

Friday

With all due respect: Take a hike! The days are long enough that you can squeeze in a walk after work in one of our neighborhood parks. Have you visited the new Trancas Crossing? That's an easy hike; or if you want more of a workout, the views from the heights of Westwood Hills will take away whatever breath remains to you after your climb.

Saturday

You have to get up early for this one, but it's worth it: CPR & First Aid Certification Classes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Community Resources for Children3299 Claremont Way. You can take either class for $75 or both for $100. Be a lifesaver and check it out.

Sunday

THE event of the season kicks off at 5 p.m.: the Napa Valley Academy Awards® Gala Celebration 2012 at Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville. $99 a ticket for this spendid party; proceeds benefit the HIV/AIDS and Cancer Case Management Programs of the CARE Network at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Check our Events calendar for more weekend happenings and if you don't see your event listed, please go ahead and post it at napa.patch.com/events/new.

If you happened to enjoy the free music you should consider giving back to the artists at www.HumanFankind.com -- they worked hard to create that music, and should be rewarded :)

If you want to be inspired by our own local thespians, go see Vintage High's Hairspray running through March 3! I recently moved to Napa and have found so many wonderful things to do. But nothing has been more inspiring than watching 50 students perform at professional levels in this entertaining musical last night. As a high school and college theater major, I was so impressed with the talent on that stage! Go see it!
