The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund wants a photograph for every name on "The Wall" in Washington, D.C. Here are the names of 20 men from Napa who gave their lives in the Vietnam War.
What if you could put a face to every name on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.? The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund hopes you can. The National Call for Photos is a project organized by the VVMF to match a headshot or portrait photograph to every service member listed on The Wall, architect Maya Lin's iconic memorial to those killed in the Vietnam War. The pictures will be displayed in an exhibit at the future Education Center at The Wall, an underground visitors center to be built near the Vietnam Veterans and the Lincoln memorials. Every day, the center will celebrate the birthdays of service members who died during the Vietnam War by featuring their photos on a giant digital wall. So far, 25,526 veterans have complete …

RIP Davy Jones, 66. Share your Monkees memories here.
Multiple news media reported this morning that Davy Jones has died of a heart attack at 66, in Florida. He was my favorite Monkee, back when I was about 7 and he would have been just 21 or so. (Maybe because I was a kid, I always liked the shortest guy in the band: Ringo was my favorite Beatle.) Did you have a favorite Monkee, too? Or do you have a favorite memory of the wacky, created-for-TV rock group that left such enduring hits as "Daydream Believer"? Please share your memories in the comments section.

"I learned that day that Bobby was a lot more than just a man who dressed in outrageous clothes and rode a bike. He was a person like everyone else who loved and hurt," remembers a reporter who came to know him well.
It was just last Saturday morning when my husband Mike and I visited with Bobby Knight at Peets Coffee in the Bel Aire Plaza shopping center. Bobby was worried about the end of the world. “Do you think it’s gonna happen soon?” he asked, somberly. We reassured him. Although the world seems like a scary place, and its future may seem bleak, things are going to get better, and the world will be around for long, long time, I told him. None of us could have expected that Bobby’s world would end in three days. On Tuesday, Bobby, 52, was found unconscious at his Napa home by his brother. Paramedics were summoned. Bobby was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say there was no sign of foul play. A familiar sight Bobby's mental disabilities didn’t …

From Beverly Hills Patch: As the investigation into Whitney Houston's death continued inside the Beverly Hilton Saturday night, helicopters hovered overhead and camera crews, reporters and fans gathered outside the hotel. An impromptu memorial began to grow on a sidewalk, as fans contributed flowers and candles. Marquit and Autrese Strozier of Los Angeles came to the Hilton when they learned of Houston's death. "When we heard the news, we just wanted to come out and see if it was true, and also see them bring her body out—so we could see if it was real," Marquit Strozier said. His wife, Autrese Strozier, said Houston was an inspirational figure. "She was iconic. She was the Queen of Pop. I'm saddened to hear that she died so early," she …
