Organic Juice Bar Opens at Oxbow

Juicy, at the Oxbow Public Market, serves fresh juices made with organic fruits, vegetables and nuts.

The bar scene at the Oxbow Public Market just got a little fresher with the addition of Juicy, a fresh juice bar located at Oxbow Produce in the market's south end. Oxbow Produce owner Andru Moshe quietly opened Juicy earlier this month and already has some devoted customers for her juiced-to-order organic fruit and vegetable blends. "It has become an addiction," said Rebecca Fine of Napa, smiling as she purchased a green shake Thursday afternoon. "I love it that everything's organic," Fine said. After placing their orders, customers can watch whole greens, carrots, beets, ginger and other fresh ingredients—including housemade almond milk—go into a powerful juicing machine and come out as colorful, nutritious beverages. 12-ounce juices are…

Ah, Brigitte, so that is why you are so slender and energetic! These juices look glorious, very alive and almost glowing in the glass. I will try one soon, too.   more ›

Help Keep Napa Healthy: Volunteer for Local Food Council

A call to action from the chair of the Napa Local Food Advisory Council.

Perhaps you’ve noticed? The local food movement is blazing trails as one of the hottest topics on the culinary map.  And that is especially apparent in Napa Valley, the agricultural paradise which we are so fortunate to call “home.” As Napans, we are blessed with some of the best soil, climate and natural resources in the world. Together, our local growers, vintners, chefs and restaurateurs have earned our region the enviable reputation as a world-class food and wine mecca. And understandably, our community culture also reflects these attributes – where a higher-than-average percentage of residents exhibit elevated interest in healthy foods, sustainable principles and a wellness lifestyle.  We are uniquely positioned to make a positive …

Hyperlocal Produce: Napa Farm Raises Food for Downtown Restaurants

A small farm has big plans to do more than just sell vegetables.

This is where BOCA Farm is putting in tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins and lots more for five of Napa’s top restaurants: Oenotri, BarBersQ, Zuzu, Angele and Morimoto Napa. BOCA (Building Our Community through Agriculture) is the brainchild of former Blue Oak School teacher Lizzie Moore, now the BOCA Farm director, and Tim Rodgers, one of the owners of Walsh Vineyard Management.   Their mission: “to actively contribute to and strengthen our local food system by growing organic produce for Napa restaurants and markets, …

Bites Nearby: Ubuntu Restaurant & Yoga Studio

You don't have to be vegan or vegetarian to fall in love with Ubuntu's garden-friendly meals and Earth-loving attitude.

Always seasonally inspired and vegetable-minded, Ubuntu is the first eco-restaurant in downtown Napa. The restaurant also features an upstairs Yoga Studio, offering classes daily morning and night. Do a little exercise and trot downstairs for a Garden Snake Salad (lightly dressed greens, leaves, flowers and roots), or artichoke and ‘rangpur’ lime vichyssoise, with braised ‘forono’ beet leaves. Another small plate option? ‘Arbequina’ olive oil, soil, preserved lemon. Yes. Soil was listed.  The vegetable inspired menu features fresh local Napa ingredients and always offers up surprises. The food is designed to be eaten "tapas"--or small plate--style, so order several plates to share with a friend and let the "name that veggie" contest begin…
